About

The tale

Tale of a Potato is the story of a tuber named Protagonist, but it could just as easily be the story of anyone. Protagonist is born, grows up, falls in love and experiences the most significant moments in anyone’s life. But are we sure we really know what those moments are? We watch Protagonist’s journey all the way to its death, trying to understand which days are crucial, which are turning points, and when it chooses to become the protagonist in its own story.

Protagonist

Lyrical and ironic, balancing dry humour with tenderness, Tale of a Potato paints a whimsical universe, where real vegetables resemble us more than we might think. Like any human being, Protagonist is thrown into a world full of people and events it must reckon with. As the months and years roll around like a carousel, the episodes of Protagonist’s life unfold and while the audience observe them, they are left to wonder: do things happen to us, or do we make them happen? Do we choose the story where we are the protagonist, or does the story choose us?

The table

On a table of iron and wood, among fresh vegetables with screws for eyes and sharp knives, Tale of a Potato aims to tell a story that resonates with everyone, addressing—with poetic tension and a playful spirit—the questions that trouble us all about family relationships, love, justice, and betrayal. The play condenses an entire existential cycle into just thirty minutes: a universe on a table, a miniature summary of life with zucchinis and cauliflowers.

BATISFERA is a necessarily contemporary theater company based in Cagliari, Italy. The company, founded in 2008, works in the search for an independent artistic path, seeking a balance between tragedy and laughter, anguish and comedy. Its members are Valentina Fadda and Angelo Trofa, and they often collaborate with numerous artists. From 2008 the company produced many shows selected for international festivals (InScena Ny, Torino Fringe Festival, Hortus Conclusus, Strabismi, DominioPubblico, Lucido Festival). After "The Gummy Bears' Great War", the company returns with a brand new tabletop object theatre show ,"Tale of a Potato".
